So a lot has been going on at Our Era headquarters since the new year…

In the space of 3 months, first it was a clothing brand… and now it’s evolved into a brand new social media platform/community for the music industry? WTF is going on?

I’m glad you asked…

When I first launched Our Era, the goal was simple: to create a high-quality, cool AF clothing brand that resonated with others in the electronic music scene. But as I spoke more and more with the community, it became clear that Our Era could be so much more.

What music producers, DJs, clubbers, event promoters and music lovers want isn’t just a cool hoodie or t-shirt that represents their passion… it’s a space to connect, share ideas, and collaborate. Somewhere where we can all support each other and help each other grow.

That’s when the idea hit: why not build a platform that brings music creators, fans, and industry pros together under one digital roof?

And so, the Our Era Community was born. A vibrant forum and hub where you can share your latest tracks, swap production tips, geek out over your favourite gear, and discover new music, new DJs, and events. Think of it as the ultimate hangout spot for anyone who lives and breathes electronic music.

I realised we needed to take a step back to the golden days when forums like dontstayin.com, bangingtunes.com, and the SilkCity forum were the beating hearts of the scene. Back then, we could connect in a focused, dedicated space, plan nights out, discover new music and events, and hear the latest news from the club scene. It was a simpler time, but it worked… and it worked brilliantly.

There was a real sense of family and camaraderie between DJs, producers, clubbers, and the events that bought it all together that has since been lost. One that our newer generations have never even experienced!

So that’s the spirit I want to revive with the Our Era Community, and I’m doing it with a fresh, user-focused twist, adding in modern features to make it even better than before bringing us into 2025 and beyond.

And honestly, it’s becoming clearer by the day that its the perfect time for this shift. Mainstream social media platforms are slowly collapsing under their own weight. People are frustrated with having to pay for ads in an over-saturated digital jungle just to be seen and heard, only for posts to get lost in the endless void of dopamine-hungry news feeds after a couple of hours anyway, if they even get seen at all. How many times have you doomscrolled for 15 minutes, completely forgetting why you even opened the app? If you even went on there for any specific reason in the first place other than habit

The agendas behind the mainstream platforms are also now coming to light, and some of them are far from savoury. Negativity, toxicity, and irrelevant distractions have taken over. It’s no wonder the music industry, its artists, events, and culture, is getting drowned out by photos of peoples dinners, politics, pet videos, and random viral clips that have no substance.

Unlike the algorithm chaser platforms that penalise us, remove our posts, and limit our organic reach for sharing links to our music, mixes, events, or livestreams… Our Era rewards you for promoting your art and helping others level up.

The more you engage by answering questions, supporting others, sharing your music, mixes, livestreams and events, and being a part of the conversation… the more you’re rewarded with feature space. Whether it’s a pinned Beatport/Bandcamp/Spotify player for your new single, a banner for your event, or a feature for your livestream… the most active members get the spotlight they deserve, for free, in the right sections of the website where it will get the most visibility.

I also wanted to make sure that all SoundCloud players and YouTube videos show up and are playable directly from your posts, so if someone wants to support you and stream or buy your music, all they have to do once is click on the button on your player to do so. (BTW, you can also add SoundCloud players and YouTube videos directly into your profile page’s ‘About Me’ section if you use the embed code when sharing from either of those platforms)

And in true oldskool forum style, any post from any time that gets a new comment rises back to the top, ensuring everyone has a fair chance to be seen and heard. No algorithms, no unfair filters… just pure, community-driven visibility.

The community moderators will be keeping a close eye out so that people don’t abuse the system by unfairly bumping posts over and over too. We want to make sure that everybody gets a fair chance to showcase their music or event, and to get the help that they need in the Q&A forums. The aim is to keep it organic and real, so that everyone gets to be seen.

This forum has no hidden agenda. The only mission is music. To bring the music community back together so we can all help each other grow, support one another, and thrive from doing what we love doing.

There are dedicated sections for everything: producers can connect with DJs, labels can find the producers, clubbers can discover events, producers can find solutions to things that they’re stuck on, the events can find the perfect DJs… and so on. It’s all here in one focused space, free from the noise and distractions of traditional social media.

I know how hard it is to stand out as an artist in today’s chaotic online world. That’s why I’ve created this platform… to give everyone in the music industry a breather from the noise and a space to connect, collaborate, and grow together.

Lastly, I’ve also included a mental health support section, bringing in professional coaches and experts to assist with any troubles that you might be having. By creating a second account for use in that specific forum, you can also remain anonymous if you wish.

The same as the rest of the Our Era Community website, The Sanctuary is designed to be a safe, non-judgemental space for producers, DJs, ravers, clubbers, and music enthusiasts to share their thoughts, seek support, and connect with others who truly understand. There’s no shame in asking for help, or simply needing to get something off your chest. We’re all here to support each other.

The Our Era Community is your new home for all things music.

Stay tuned for updates as more features are added. This is just the beginning!
