I'm looking to upgrade my PC and have come up with this build:

Case: Fractal Meshify 2 Compact - Black
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
Motherboard: ASUS Prime X670E-Pro WiFi
Graphics: Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB
Memory: 32GB Kingston FURY Beast RGB
SSD Storage: 4TB Kingston NV3
Power Supply: 850W Our Choice 80 Plus Gold
CPU Cooling: Noctua NH-D15S chromax.black

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are. Looking to use for production and a bit of gaming (total war)

@tim_clewz That'll be a beast mate! The Fractal case looks stealth AF 👌

Let me know how you get on with it. I'm on an M1 Mac Mini at the minute which flies for production, but I'm looking to build a Windows PC as well soon for video editing, Unreal Engine, Blender, and gaming.

I was originally looking at the RTX 3080 Ti, but now there's a RTX 5090 getting released tomorrow. Mega pricey, but it'll be powerful!

In case you want to say thank you 👍

That sounds like a beast!

  • I'm thinking the same this year but only cos of the forced win11 push. Currently have a 10 yr old workstation beast. Intel 4790 4ghz, 32GB ram and stock graphics. The processor isn't win 11 compliment but still copes with most music projects I can throw at it. Budget is my main problem though 😬 Thinking of a used 4/5 yr old workstation. I9 128ram for £500 or so.... Or a modern budget spec for about £1200. Urggghh 😩

@detzen yes the windows 11 push is what got me thinking about it, plus a few glitches here and there on my 5 year old one.

@detzen It defo gets expensive!

I'd have a butchers on eBay as well. I found some decently specced pre-built Windows machines on there for decent prices before. It's worth a look.

This will definitely be power enough to do what you are looking for mate. For production and Total War you could probably bring that price down by half. I done a build for production and gaming ended up spending so much money to them not bother using it for its max potential lol

My build

Ryzen 9 7900X3D 4.4GHZ

32GB DDR5 Ram 6000mhz a piece

4TB NVME

10TB SSD

24TB Sata3

RTX 3090 24GB Graphics

1000W Plus Gold Power Supply

what I would say is if it’s just strictly production and Total War then you would get away with the following….

Ryzen 5 3600

16gb ddr4 ram

Gtx 1060
